WHAT IS FOOD n STUFF?

The food bank of Norwalk Alliance Church was started in 1992 and was dubbed "Food and Stuff."  This was established as an outreach ministry to those in need in the community and surrounding areas, which extends to Willard, Greenwich, New London, and Monroeville as well as Norwalk.

From the beginning, our supplier has been Second Harvest in Amherst who sells us food at pennies per pound to give out to those who come to our monthly giveaway. We are also a distributor for USDA products for those families or individuals who qualify. We average approximately 100 families per month or about 300 people.

In 1997 the students from EHOVE built a well-insulated and heated shed to house and dispense our food. This has often been filled to overflowing, especially following the Letter Carriers Union Food Drive in May -- which is divided between several food agencies in Norwalk. In 2002, we received 2,200 pounds from this food drive alone. During the July 4th parade this year, our youth are collecting non-perishable food for Food and Stuff as well.

The Lord has also continued to bless this ministry with a solid financial backing as donations (including food) are often received from the church congregation or members within the community.

We have approximately 25 volunteers who give generously of their time to work at unloading, filling the boxes, or assisting on the days of the giveaway. Additional workers are always welcome especially on the second Tuesday of each month (10:30 a.m.) to unload the delivery truck. If you could help in any way, please contact the church office.
